Teodor Shanin
Teodor Shanin (29.10.1930 - 04.02.2020)

He co-founded the peasant studies, participated in political life of several countries and developed some interdisciplinary methods to study social problems.

Teodor Shanin's works had great impact in historical sociology, altered ideas on peasantry life in Russia and other countries. Teodor had left-wing political views and wrote several works on Marxism and the Russian Revolution.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire, professor at the University of Manchester.

In 1995, Teodor, together with his colleagues, founded the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES). He held the position of the School Rector until 2007. Then he became its President.
